We start our trip in the village center of Pyhä. The small village is right next to border of Pyhä-Luosto national park. That's the closest nationalpark from Rovaniemi. It's easy to get there by bus.
Some facts about the national park:
Pyhä-Luosto is home to Finland's southernmost fell massif. Hills in the area of Rovaniemi are quite small, but here you see more beautiful landscape
The protection of the Pyhätunturi area dates back to 1938, when one of Finland's first national parks was established here. The area of Luosto joined 2005 and the nationalpark grew bigger.
The Pyhätunturi fell massif consists of a chain of 12 fell peaks. If you walk or take scenic lift to the top of Pyhätunturi you see the beautiful chain.
Isokuru is the deepest gorge in Finland, reaching a depth of around 220 metres. Unfortenaly it's too dangerous to go and see it on winter becouse of the risk of avalanche. But you can always come on summer and walk bottom of the huge gorge in the midnight sun!
